SPORTS ROOM OPENS THIS EVENING CATERING FOR CLUBS | Designed with a view of meeting the needs of the many sports bodies in Auckland and to definitely establish a sports centre, "The Olympic,” in St. James Buildings, will be opened this These sports rooms, which are in j reality large sporting clubs, are something new in New Zealand, but in America and in some of the larger cities of Australia they are very popular. To meet the ever-increasing demand for indoor putting greens for golfers, i full nine-hole course covering an area of 1,300 square feet has been laid down in woven green felt baize, such as is used on indoor courses in England and America, and it will be possible to make 30ft putts. For billiards and snooker players 16 full-size billiards tables have been set up and six championship standard tables for table tennis have been installed. The latest sporting results in New Zealand and Australia will be received on a powerful radio set. and these will be published in the lounge as they come to hand. Arrangements are in hand to provide space for a full double-rink for indoor bowling. and this will be laid down in coir matting and felt baize. A committee meeting room and sports reference room will be available lor clubs holding meetings, and will contain a complete tile of sporting papers. The second storey of the building has now been renovated to accommodate club-roms for about 15 clubs. Refreshments including light lunches and teas will also be available.
