MAUNGAKIEKIE CLUB NEW PRESIDENT ELECTED | In spite of the course being under 1 reconstruction, making conditions unfavourable, the Maungakiekie Golf Club had a wonderful season last year. Entrance fees amounted to the exceptional. sum of £B3l, the income being £6,622 as against £5,000 in the previous year. , These facts were mentioned by Mr. G. Laurence Taylor in his address to members at the annual meeting of the ; club last evening. He thought the j club was in a most sound position and the extra subscriptions this year would | en 3-bl© the alterations to be completed i and the course maintained in its presI ent perfect condition. The following officers were elected: j President, Mr. W. J. A. Thomson; vicepresident, Messrs. C. J. Schnauer and j N. Mcßobie; captain, Mr. if. M. Rogerson; vice-captain, Mr. F. W. Wilson* ; committee, Messrs. H. W. Cooke, R m’ George, G. M. White, T. A. Goulding, | and F. R, Ward, Mesdames N. E. Bur- ; ton and J. C. Finlay, and Misses M. I Haslett and B. M. Gii°rson; auditor, : Mr. J. M. Elliffe. j Mr. Schnauer moved that the club i should place on record its grateful j thanks and appreciation of the services of the retiring president, who had occupied the position continuously ior the past 11 years. “Mr. Taylor had I always been enthusiastic, and lias al- ! ways been heartily interested in any movement for the progres of the club,” he said. “The year he assumed office the membership of the club stood at 340, as against the 824 members at present. He has been instrumental in bringing about this increase.” Replying, Mr. Taylor said he had a leeling that the office of president should be handed on, if not every year, at least every few years. Although lie had refused nomination for another term he did not intend to lose interest in the affairs of the club. On the motion of Mr. Rogerson it was decided to place on record the valuable services rendered to the club by Mr. Mcßobie, retiring club captain, and to forward a letter of sympathy with him in his ill-health. A vote of thanks was also passed to Mr. G. Goodwin, the only member of the executive except the retiring president, who was leaving an official position in the club.
