KINGSFORD SMITH’S PLANS NEW PROPELLERS FOR PLANE (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 10.15 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. Three new propellers will be fitted today to the Southern Cross, and, circumstances permitting, Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith and Flight-Lieutenant Ulm will begin their flight to Wyndham, on their way to England, on Thursday. The New South Wales Government has given a cheque for £4,500 to Kingsford Smith and Ulm, which represents the previous Government’s guarantee to enable the Pacific flight to be undertaken. The Premier, Mr. Bavin, paid his Government’s contribution of £2,500 last November. NEW ZEALAND AIRMAN MR. MASE TO HOP OFF ON SATURDAY According to private advice received in Auckland, Mr. Frank Mase will hop off on Saturday from England on his flight to Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Mase, who will use a SimmondsSpartan machine, intends to follow Bert Hinkler’s route to Sydney, and afterwards to cross the Tasman, landing at Invercargill. MOIR AND OWEN DELAYED MACHINE TO BE REPAIRED (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Saturday. Messrs. Vickers, who built the airplane being used by Flying Officers Moir and Owen on their flight to Australia, have received a cable message from their agents to the effect that the forced landing at Mersamatruh in Egypt, was due to engine trouble, which occurred shortly after they had started on their intended non-stop flight of 1,000 miles from Benghazi. Slight damage was done to one wing tip, and also to the undercarriage. The firm telegraphed instructions for repairs to be done forthwith. It is understood that aid will be forthcoming from a Royal Air Force airdrome in the vicinity.
