CIVIL WAR LOOMS

AMANULLAH’S BID FOR THRONE CLASH WITH TRIBESMEN (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) DELHI, Sunday. Fighting has begun in Afghanistan. Ex-King Amanullah is making a determined bid for the recovery of the throne. He sent a large force with six guns from Kandahar to Kelati Gilzai, a town 70 miles from Kabul. On the way they clashed with tribesmen in the Mulsur district. There were heavy casualties on both sides. Abdul Ali, brother of the former Governor of Kabul, is raising 2,000 troops to support Amanullah. The Shinwaris, who are opposing Amanullah are threatening to attack Dacca and Lalpura. Amanullah’s airmen are dropping leaflets in Kabul urging the citizens to eject the usurper Bacchaisahao. The opinion is generally expressed that unless some strong leader appears the country will very soon be plunged into civil war.
