ST. ANDREW’S CONCERT

GOVERNOR-GENERAL A GUEST Auckland Scots assembled in force at the Town Hall on Saturday evening, when a concert and social evening was held in honour of St. Andrew s Society patron, the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson. The president, Mr. M. McK. Millikin, welcomed the guests of honour. J. J. Bell’s comedy, “The Laird s Lucky Number,” was presented successfully by an amateur company, Mr. John Barr playing the part of the laird. Miss Peggy Hovey playing the laird s housekeeper. Mr. G. G. Spicer the manservant. and Mr. E. E. Addis the constable. It was a thoroughly enjoyable comedv, skilfully presented. A number of vocal items were contributed by Miss M. Hogg, Mr. T. H. Hallihan. and Miss Gower, while an enjoyable duet was given by Mrs. Betray and Mr. Spicer. Miss G. McNaughton danced a sword dance. -< the close of the musical programme supper was provided, while the remainder of the evening was spent in dancing. Percy Marmont. who will be remembered for his fine acting in “If winter Comes." is cast for the leading role in Sir Walter Scott’s "Lady of tne Lake." Percy Marmont is an Lnglisn actor who has played in America, but has decided to stay in England and act in British films. He has muon scope for acting in "The Lady ot tiie Lake, ' and this film should cause great interest, as Gainsborough intend this to be their most spectacular and costly production. This will be released throughout the coming year n> British Dominions Films, Ltd. After careful consideration a large number of stories, Metro-Gola-nn-Mayer has selected "Way for a Bailor** as John Gilbert’s first starring vehicle under his new contract. Gilbert is enthusiastic about the possibilities of the new story, a narrative °f marine adventure with a varied background, and a fast-moving plot, production of which will be on a scale la fger than “Tell It to the Marines. Way for a Sailor" is an autobiographical story by Albert Richard WetJen.
