A.R.C. FIXTURE
QUEEN ARCH PENALISED VALLAR’S RIDER The fancied Easter Handicap candidate, Bright Glow, has arrived at Ellerslie. She is looking bright and well, and should be able to run a great race in the big mile on Saturday. Other arrivals at headquarters include the Taranaki performers, Lady Quex and Royal Finance. The latter t will compete in the two-year-old handicaps. Lady Quex was entered for _ the Easter Handicap, but failed to survive the acceptance. It is more than likely that she will contest the sprint at headquarters on Monday. It is probable that Bright Glow, Lady Quex and Royal Finance will remain here to race at Avondale on April 6 and 10. No doubt this plan of campaign will be made definite if the trio show form at Ellerslie. TO RIDE VALLAR * Lightweight jockey W. H. Jones, who last week returned from an extended sojourn in Australia, has been definitely booked to pilot Vallar in the Easter Handicap on Saturday. On the minimum, this speedy 1 galloper is looked upon as Ellerslie's big hope in that race. v is expected that R. McTavish, who j usually does the riding for J. Williamson's stable, when the weights suit, will J be on Branson in the Easter Handicap. He has been on the Avondale-trained gelding in his last few starts. - In tlie Tauranga Cup on Saturday, Queen Arch 8.7 beat Desert Glow 8.10 Uy two lengths. In the President’s 5 Handicap at Ellerslie next Saturday ; are both to meet again, the respective weights being 7.1 and 7.4.
Now Mr. McManemin has penalised Queen Arch 31b, making her weight for the Ellerslie event 7.4, and she ’ will be on the same mark as Desert Glow. In addition to riding Vallar next Saturday, W. IT. Jones has been engaged to pilot Sleepy Sol in the President’s Handicap and Praetor in the Onslow Stakes. The majority of horses from outside the province engaged at Ellerslie this week-end are expected to put in an appearance to-morrow morning. Under a Cloud Beau Cavalier was not worked at headquarters this morning, it appears that he cut his legs about when he was schooled last week and has since been very sore. It remains to be seen whether he will have improved sufficiently to take his place in the Brighton hurdles on Saturday, in which event S. Foster had been engaged to ride the Chesterfield gelding. J. Williamson’s two-year-olds, Gemiiglit and Praetor, were schooled at the barrier this morning, and their mentor could not but be pleased by the manner in which they jumped out. British King lias developed a splint and will not be seen in action for some time. At present he is wearing cottonwool and bandages sufficient to stock a chemist’s shop. Riding Engagements The following are additional riding engagements announced for Saturdaynext:— R. McTavish.—Corinax. E. Ludow.—High Pitch, Catoma and Eager Rose. F. McGovern.—Uralla and Ramblin’ Kid. IT. Dulieu.—Boomerday and Star of the East. R. Oli v e. : —Ka win i. J. Burgess.—Clockwork. L. Dulieu.—King’s Guard. Supremacy’s Pilot It is stated that D. Cotton will ride the crack two-year-old Supremacy in the Champagne Stakes on Saturday. Cotton has been doing the riding of late for W. Stone’s Te Awamutu stable when the weights have suited. The exSouthern jockey has his critics, but the fact that he has been riding Supremacy in his work-outs will no doubt be an advantage, for he ought to know by now how to get the best out of the Chief Ruler gelding. If Supremacy gets beaten on Saturday it will be the surprise of the many Easter carnivals. Corinax is regarded as a sure starter in the President’s Handicap on Saturday. The same stable also has The Lover engaged in this race, in which, by the way, lie would stand a real good chance, but it is not certain that he will run. Hip 6 and Melissa are due to arrive from New Plymouth within the next few days to fulfil their engagements at the Avondale meeting:
