GAOL FOR BUILDER
DEBTS WHILE BANKRUPT PROBATION UNSUITABLE Having on three occasions incurred debts of £2O and over while still an undischarged bankrupt, Frederick Thomas Alley was sentenced at the Police Court this afternoon to 14 days’ imprisonment. Alley, a builder, of elderly appearance, who was represented by Mr. J. J. Sullivan, appeared for sentence. When he first appeared, a remand was granted to enable the probation officer to report on the suitability (ri a term of probation. Mr. E. C. Cut ten said this afternoon that there had been a considerable deficit when Alley had first been adjudged bankrupt, and there was little chance, on account of his age, of his ever paying back the outstanding amounts. “I think it is one of those cases calling for a short term of imprisonment.” said the magistrate.
