ELTHAM HANDICAP

THE SECOND LEG Thirty is again the number handi- || capped in the shorter heat, Kohara j again being given the post of honour. Included among those engaged are several that can scamper over the 10furlongs at a merry clip, and if the back marker expects to gather the field up he must be prepared to put up a great effort. Off the front line is Zella. and she j is a beauty once under way, being able to gather up a great turn of speed. Cora Tacks is another that can be counted on to whisk over this distance at a merry rate, and her recent displays prove her to be in form. Arikitoa should hold reasonable prospects, but Sir Author, if at his best, will be the hardest for the opposition to contend with. Our Patch hafe not shown any recommending form of late, but when tuned up can reel off 10 furlongs in fine style. High Sea is another that should prove a nuisance and the roan will have a good few friends if ho goes to the post. If Derby Lynn has come to hand she will make the race decidedly interesting. while failing a penalty after today’s outing, Carmel will be a hard head, and so will Grand Light. Lindbergh is a real speed merchant, but latterly appears to have developed bad barrier habits. which tend to spoil the youngster’s prospects. Riehore is evidently A 1 at Lloyd's, judging by his Palmerston North essay, and when he takes it on seriously it requires a good one to beat him. Further back are some fine performers in Dilworth. Hal Chimes, Warplane and Nelson McCormack, but their task is a pretty severe one. Half a dozen that may appeal at this stage are Zella, Cora Tacks, Sir Author, Carmel, High Sea and Derby Lynn.
