The by-election held at Holland, owing to Mr. A. W. Dean's death, resulted in a Liberal gain: Blindell (.Liberal) 13,000 White (.Labour) 0 294 Vanderberg (Conservative) .. 5’257 Dennis (Independent) 3]d4l Liberal majority . 3,706 The North Lanark by-election, occasioned by the death of Colonel Sir Alexander Sprot (Conservative) resuited in a Labour gain. Miss Jennis Lee (Labour) .. .. 15,7 H Lord Scone (Conservative) . . 9 133 Miss Mitchell (Liberal) 2*485 Labour majority $ 575 Miss Mitchell forfeits her deposit. Miss Jennie Lee, who gained such a ?f cces ® Is 26 years old and is the daughter of a Scottish miner. She attended an elementary school, and her parents managed, with characteristic fccottish frugality, to send her to Edinburgh University. There she took her arts degree with honours, and the degree of Bachelor or Laws. She won also a travelling scholarship on the Continent. She is now engaged as a school mistress. The by-election at Bath, caused by the death of Captain C. T. Foxcroft (Conservative), resulted: Mr. C. W. Baillie Hamilton (Con.) 11,171 Mr. S. R. Daniels (Liberal) . . 7,255 Mr. G. G. Desmond (Labour) . . 6,359 Conservative majority .. . . 3,916 The late Mr. A. W. Deans (Conservative) majority was 4,770 over the Labour candidate, Mr. G. R. B. White, who was 4,276 votes ahead of the Liberal candidate, Mr. R. P. Winfrey. The late Sir Alexander Sprot’s majority was only 2,028 votes over the Labour candidate, Mr. J. Sullivan. The majority at Bath at the General Election for the late Captain Foxcroft was 7,267 in a. three-cornered contest. The Liberal candidate polled S,BOO and Labour 3,914.
