SHIPS NARROW ESCAPE MISHAP AT WHANGAREI (From Our Oicn Correspondent) WIIANGAREI. To-day. The ship Claymore, which left Whangarei at four o'clock yesterday, had & fortunate escape from an accident as she approached the drawbridge span of the railway line across the harbour at Kioreroa. The span fell with a thundering crash, closing the exit to the outn harbour. The Claymore was only a few hundred yards away. . Tho collapse of the span was duo t the snapping of a steel rope attaehed to a heavy balancing weight. The slip was obliged to return to M hangarei town wharf and got away again earti this morning, an emergency gang na\ - ins raised the bridge. , This is said to be the second occasion on which the span has fallen. The first was 15 years ago.
