“Bird in Hand”
First Drinkwater Play to be Done in N.Z. LITTLE THEATRE PRODUCTION The Auckland Little Theatre Society will present its 13th production at the concert chamber, Town Hall, on April 10, 11, 12, 13. The play chosen is “Bird In Hand,” by John Drinkwater, the play which has met with remarkable success both in London and Sydney. What should be of great interest is the fact that this effort will introduce John Drinkwater, the dramatist, for the first time in New Zealand. It is always gratifying to the society to give the works of authors who have not been played in the Dominion and it is with justifiable pride that the Litle Theatre gives its supporters this brilliant comedy by a man outstanding in the repertory world as playwright, poet and producer. Sir Barry Jackson and John Drinkwater were responsible for the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Their combined efforts have made this organisation, one of great merit, and it is the intention of the Auckland Little Theatre Society to endeavour to follow their distinguished lead. Following is the cast for “Bird In Hand”:— Joan Greenleaf - - - - Janet Clarkson Alice Greenleaf, her mother* - Ina M. Allan Thomas Greenleaf, her father ------ Arnold Goodwin Gerald Arnwood - - - - Harold Haines Mr. Blanquet - -- -- -- - Han Flood Cyril Beverley - - - Morrison Steedman Ambrose Godolphin, K.C. - Ernest Blair Sir Robert Arnwood - Gerald Roxburgh
