TOWN MEETS COUNTRY
SEED OF UNITY SOWN
COMMERCE CONFERENCES
The commerce train which ran through the Auckland province toward the end of last year has sown the seed cf unity between town and country, and paved the wi.y for a series of conferences between chambers of Commerce throughout the district.
A movement is now being organised for a conference of chambers of commerce from all parts of the Auckland provincial district. It is suggested that these bodies should meet toward the end of the winter and frame remits for submission to the annual conference of the New Zealand Associated Chambers of Commerce, which this year is to be held at Auckland about October. At a recent meeting of the Auckland Chamber, a committee was appointed to carry out this idea. The originator of the scheme, Mr. G. Finn, president of the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association, was appointed convenor, and has with him a committee comprising Messrs. J. R. Rendell, C. E. Clinkard, W. R. Ellingham, T. C. Webster and A. A. Ross.
This conference of district chambers of commerce will, it is hoped, be the forerunner of similar meetings later on. It is thought that the commerce train has done much toward bringing town and country together—a feeling which will be improved by meetings representing both interests.
