In the Market Place
PEACH SALES SLOW PEAS HIGH IN PRICE Peaches are meeting with a cluil inquiry in the city markets and prices are lower than they have been for several weeks, past. In the vegetable salerooms, green peas are scarce and prices have risen. Bananas, Island and Californian, are selling well. Louis Bons are the only pears meeting with a good inquiry. An improvement on last week’s rates is shown for Te Kauwhata grapes. No plums are being offered. Small, inferior apples arc difficult to quit, but good Cox’s are selling briskly. There is no change in the potato market. There are heavy supplies of kumeras, pumpkins and swedes. At to-day’s poultry auction, there was a steady demand throughout the sales. Choice cockerels and heavy hens caused spirited competition and light breed birds sold readily at reduced rates. Only choice pullets close t«> laying realised high prices.
