MENTAL PATIENTS
OBSERVATION WARDS NEEDED W.C.T.U. CONVENTION / Resolutions passed at the convention of the New Zealand Women's Christian Temperance Union which has concluded at Wellington, included the suggestion that observation wards should be established at public hospitals in which patients who were subjects of application for reeeption orders to a mental hospital should have their cases thoroughly investigated. The resolution also affirmed that no person should be removed from the hospital to a mental hospital until ai least two medical certificates had beer obtained, approving of removal, and that a magistrate, before signing a reception order, attend the hospital to satisfy himself that committal was necessary. From the delegation to the convention it was evident that keen interest was being taken in W.C.T.U. work by the Maori and Niue Island women.
