Green Lane’s Hope

Play With Harbour Board

Final Cricket on the Domain

WHAT chance has the youthful Green Lane team of winning the senior A championship of the Suburban Cricket Association:

A three-point win by the Laners over Harbour Board, leading in the competition at present, in the big match bn the Domain to-morrow afternoon will mean that the Laners have the honours for the season.

To-morrow afternoon's play will mark the beginning of the final play in the championship. It is two weeks since Suburban senior games have been in progress, and sudden changes in form may occur. Surprises may be expected even more should the wickets be exceptionally damp. Harbour Board leads the other teams through sheer merit in all-round play. Green Lane, chiefly through the training of the coach, Cox, who has just returned to England, lias shone in the second round. Cox will be missed. The Laners have a fighting chance. Ponsonby plays Glen Eden on the first wicket, and a three-point win, should Green Lane succeed, would put Ponies in line with Harbour Board. Victoria and Ellerslie will play on the third wicket. Both teams have excellent batsmen. Second Grade Green Lane.—Leach, Clark, Hewett, Warner, Beeson (2), Baxter, Phillips, llbert, Saunders, McElwain. MILITARY SPORTS MANY NOVELTY EVENTS TO-MORROW’S MEETING Over GOO cadets and territorials will take part in a big tabloid sports carnival promoted by the Military Sports Association at Carlaw Park to-morrow afternoon. This annual meeting is gaining in popularity every year, and according to the enthusiasm being shown by the members of the various units, to-mor-row's meeting promises to be one of the best staged so far. The two big trophies to be competed for will be the “Herald” Cup, for senior cadets, and the new Carlaw Shield, which will be contested for among the territorial competitors. interesting. A team of 12 sit astride the boom with their backs to the finishing point, and the leader sits astride in the front facing the finishing point. At the word “go” the teams start to run backward, the leader endeavouring to guide them to the finishing post. Relay races and suen novelty events as spar-boxing are also being featured on the programme. The Senior Cadets’ Band will be in attendance.
