COUNCIL ASKED TO HELP “CITY PRETTY WELL BLED” A suggestion that the City Council might open a subscription list for the relief of distress in the famine arcus of China was made last evening in a wire from the Mayor of "Wellington, who stated that steps had been taken to establish a fund in the capital. The message pointed out that 16,000,000 people were perishing and expressed the hope that an appeal would receive Dominion-wide supporL “Weil, we have bled the public pretty thoroughly,” said the Mayor, Mr. George Baildon. “My experience is that all the money that can be raised here can be spent here, and this is noi a job I look forward to with any comfort.
