ELDERLY MAN’S DEATH

SUICIDE BY GAS POISONING A verdict of suicide was returned by the coroner, Mr. W. R. McKean, at an inquest held this morning on the death of Samuel Frederick Dye. Dye, a labourer, aged 58, was found on the floor of liis bedroom on the morning of March 17. Blankets were wrapped round his head, and a tube leading from an open gas jet was resting in his mouth. According to John Murray Moriarty, who occupied the adjoining room in the lodging-house at 20 Prime’s Lane, Newton, where both men lived, deceased was addicted to drink. He had been employed as a labourer on the tramways for 20 years. Witness understood that Mr. Dye was a married man, but was separated from his wife, who was now living in Australia.
