EDUCATIONAL FILMS

NEW ZEALAND ONES NOT AVAILABLE TECHNICAL COLLEGE WANTS “If suitable films are available I think the board should seriously consider the installation of a projecting machine,” said Mr. G., J. Park, prinicpal of the Seddon Memorial Technical College, at a meeting of the board of managers yesterday afternoon, when the question of the educational value of films was under discussion. The chairman, Mr. H. S. W. King, said that he was a great believer in films as an important factor in education.

Recently the Government Publicity Office was offered the college assembly hall for screening educational films, but the office did not seem very keen, said Mr. Park. A letter received from the publicity officer stated that most of the films were sent abroad, others being screened at picture theatres throughout the Dominion. He would refer the board’s letter to the Minister to see what could be done. Mr. .Park suggested that the publicity offices in Australia and Tasmania be communicated with, asking for information as to films available. The college assembly hall was the only school hall fitted with an isolated chamber for the projection of pictures, and it would be available for use by pupils from schools other than the college, said Mr. King. Xo further action was taken pending a reply from the Minister.
