TO-MORROW’S BIG CARD

HIGHWAYS, railways and waterways will all lead toward larawai to-morrow, where the Thames Trotting Club will stage another oi Us enjoyable racing functions. Special transport services have been arranged to suit patrons from all directions and everything points to the fixture bein- an unqualified success. A review of the card by “Abavdos”

The various arrangements in connec- j tion with the meeting have been finall6ed and no detail has been overlooked j by the officials who so ably control the destinies of the enterprising club. The transportation facilities have again been attended to most carefully, while usual, stabling and accommodation •vis Veen obtained for the numerous patrons and their charges. “Efficiency of service” is the slogan of Secretary Brownlee, and his associates, and it is this attention to every detail that has : >ade the Thames Club so popular with light-harness enthusiasts throughout the province. Hikutaia Handicap A big field of novices and improvers will be seen out here, with four-fifths of the competitors on the front. A lot will depend on the draw at the post, while luck in the get-away will also play a prominent part. Cold Treasure has been racing bettor of late and will be on r of the most seasoned candidates, but Warspite and .Margaret Wallace are no strangers to the race track and they must be respected. Carnui, Don Wildman and Princess Betty are possibilities, while maiden performers in Benence, Bawdier and Belle Axworthy will be worthy of consideration. They will be making their debut and may not do their best the first time in public. Black Ball in and Moko Fly are handily placed and should be in the' picture. The public will no doubt prefer Gold Treasure with his experience, but Benefice may find friends, while should the latter be absent Belle Axworthy will not be neglected. Kerepeehi Handicap Fifteen colour the card in this heat., which is for the long-distance candidates, but there are several engaged

wbo have shown no staying propensities up to the present. Of the front liners Aloko Fly, if saved fur this item, may see it out. and Polly’s Picture is a likely one to hang on, but Peter Pirate looks a better proposition, liaerenga. Pai has proved equal to the journey previously, and Regret should find it no trouble to get to the end of 18 furlongs, and may be a nuisance to her opponents. Dealer is a solid customer and being nicely placed cannot fail to appeal, and Hohora if in the humour should do well. Joe Aspro and Xelia Dillon are not recognised its distance exponents, but Dad’s PI ope and Gokl Sound are to be kept onside. The latter has a fancy for the Thames track and may again be in the money. Child© Audubon, if the race is run to his liking, will bo handy, and Nelson McCormack has a hard task. Favourites may be Dealer and Peter Pirate. Parawai Trot Handicap Nine of the dozen runners ligure on the limit of the square-gaiters’ item, und several are practically unknown quantities. Merrimax and Wild Downs are familiar to racegoers, and will require to show improved form to have a chance with the leniently treated Te Xgutu, whose Claudelands form was distinctly good. Nelson Girl possesses a nice turn of speed, and if she can bo Wept to an even gait may upset calculations. Garwood has yet to repay hio followers for their attention, and his turn might arrive to-morrow. He has the speed if only he will go right. Lochdots not appeal, but Paradigm, if he sees the post, will not lack support. Je Ngutu will start favourite, with Carwood also fancied. Puriri Handicap The field ?n the saddle heat is large enough, but class is not strongly represented. A number of novices are on the end. but in this list is Zealous, who won a harness event at To Aroha last autumn. She should be equal to settling those beside her, but may find f * ew »t the rear troublesome. Ursula® has plenty of speed and if in the “ u ® our would make it a procession, while Gold Cast is a solid chap and should be at home in this field. Golden hope is a big possibility’, and Muon brattan. if in anything like form, would feel offended at being on such a loose hihrk. Charming Pronto does not sfem ready, but if .Toe Aspro is in the right order, he will be pretty busy

j when it cornea to the finish. Dad s \ j Hope has a good chance as he seems j j to do better with the weight on top. j Thoso further back will be kept hard at it to get among their rivals further cordod U m Ul 't ne ai ‘ d 2ealous may be accoraea most support. Thames Trotting Cup There is nothing wrong with the heat of ° f th the *» the principal heat of the day, and the contest promises to be an exciting one On be C mken° rm - the , Ir T nt inkers cannot UL taken seriously, but the trio on the drfo» r ?i W - Wl L‘ kee P those behind them i thelr bes t all the way. Grand , t>ht 's a promising colt, and while he Sained a first certificate has some good second placings to his credit. Carmel is another full of promise, that has come suddenly into the limelight, and despite his failure at Ashhurst, will hnd good support. Limosa is not to bo under-estimated and if anything is to create a surprise, it will probably be me ex- Canter bury mare. Concertina an ill make a bold bid for victory, and the Thames course suits her. while kockburn is showing signs of returning to his best form. Cornelian was attractive at Hamilton and Tony Victor lias never been better, and if he hangs out will l>© tough. Hal Chimes should make a good showing and account for those at the back. If started Grand Light will hold pride of place, with Carmel also in demand, but in the absences of either, who are engaged later, Limosa will be looked for. Turua Handicap ! This event has drawn the biggest aci ceptance on the card, but with the exception of Royal Locunda, Vanity Boy and Speed King, the rest all claim I earlier engagements, and their displays

in previous items will throw some further light on their prospects. Failures in the opening event, with its more elastic limit, will not be much sought after in this go. Taking a line through the handicap for the Hikutaia heat, Great Ballin, who is meeting the majority of the contestants on 48yds better terms, through the difference of the limit, should have a chance here. Several will be seen out in the slow two mile, and here again their form should be noted closely. Zealous, Great Ballin, Royal l-iocanda. Vanity Boy, Haerenga Pai, Ursuline, Dealer and Regret are all possibilities, and in the end the elect may bo Royal Locanda and Maerenga Pai. As Royal Locanda may not be present, however, Regret will come in for solid support. President’s Handicap Again th square-gaited fraternity have their c.iance, but the held is not one to enthuse about. The front lot are unknown quantities over two miles, or have nothing to recommend them, and Don Zolock, who gave Dipnoi such a good tussle at Epsom last month, should hold them all safe. Roez will not always do her best, and Leo Mauritius so far lias failed to stay. Direct Action, if keeping down, would be a nuisance, and Royal Bob. if dressed in his best regalia, will be one of the hardest to keep from returning a price. If-the pace is not too solid in the early stages Billy Carbine will have a chance to see the distance out. and Anscline, despite the long start, will be putting it in at the finish. Don Zolock and Billy Carbine may have most friends. Kopu Handicap The field for the linal heat of the day is a solid one, numerically, and in point of quality. Nella Dillon, Admiral Lock —Horizon bracket and Mountain Dell appeal most off the end, while Carmel and Grand Light will be extremely difficult propositions from the next peg. If either earns a penalty they will probably remain in the stall. Concertina will tramp a merry 10 furlongs, and Cornelian and Rock burn are in a good position to add interest to the heat. Hal Chimes, Tony Victor and Xelson McCormack are a speedy trio, and with a good run any of the three would be dangerous. Carmel and Grand Light will be in keen demand, but in the absence of either, Nella Dillon will find favour.
