MAJORITY CUT DOWN (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) LONDON, Wednesday. The by-election for the East Toxteth division of Liverpool, necessitated by the death of Mr. A. E. Jacob (Conservative), resulted as follows: Mr. Henry Mond (son of Lord Melchett, Conservative), . . 9,692 Mr. J. J. Cleary (Labour) . . 6,563 Mr. A. I. Roberts, Liberal .. 6,206 Conservative majority .. .. 3,129 The result of the polling: for East Toxteth as the last general election was:— A. E. Jacob (Conservative), 16,139; C. Durden (Labour), 6,620; F. C. Bowring (Liberal), 4,169. Conservative majority, 9,519.
