“MUDDLED IT AWAY”

THEFT OF BUFFALOES’ FUNDS MAN GETS PROBATION “He just muddled it away,” said Chief-Detective Hammond when John Ebblewhite was charged at the Police Court this morning with failing to account for £9 7s, the property of the Lord Alverston Lodge, Royal Antidiluvian Order of Buffaloes. Ebblewhite pleaded guilty, and Mr. Hammond described him as a man quite well known in the city. He had been a member of the Lord Alverston Lodge for some time and was given the lodge piano to dispose of, as he was in the auctioneering business. He had kept £9 7s out of the amount. “I know him well,” concluded the ChiefDetective. “Drink is his trouble.” Mr. Black, for Ebblewhite, said that the man had mixed the money up and did not know where he stood. Pie did not think he owed the lodge as' much as £9 7s, but there was no way of checking the amount. Ebblewhite was admitted to probation for six months and ordered to j make restitution.
