FRACAS AT STABLES
HORSE TRAINER IN COURT Press Association WELLINGTON, YVednesday. A charge on a private information of assault was preferred against Benjamin Alexander Jarden in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, the complainant being Alexander Pirie. In evidence, it was stated that Kelly, Alorrison, and Pirie were a syndicate of racing men, who assisted Jarden to purchase stables at Lower Hutt, and installed him as trainer. Pirie, in his evidence, said he went to the property to issue instructions to the trainers, and Jarden went up to him and saidi “YY r hat is this I hear about your saving I am neglecting the horses?” Pirie asked “And did you not?” Jarden denied it, and hit him on the jaw. Kelly and Alorrison supported Pirie’s evidence.
Jarden said he questioned Pirie about his statements, and Pirie adopted a threatening- manner. Thinking he was going to be hit, he struck first. The charge was dismissed, conditional on defendant paying court costs and witnesses’ fees.
