RIVAL BOATS AT FLORIDA

EVE OF BIG CONTEST (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) NEW YORK, Wednesday. Major H. O. D. Segrave to-day made preparations at Miami Beach, Florida, for his race with Mr. Gar Wood’s motor-boat Miss America. He gave his own boat. Miss England, a final test run before what is to be a contest for the world’s speed-boat championship. _ ~ After the test Major Segrave said: We went much faster to-day than the boat had ever travelled before. The new propeller we are using is veiy satisfactory and the engine is working P Ma jor”' Segrave is testing the boat carefully, for the life o fthe delicate engine is limited. Mr. Wood tested his own boat on the regular two-mile course. Subsequently he asked for a rearrangement of the buoys to prevent sharp turns. The American boat admittedly is superior on a straight course but Major Segrave may have a decided advantage with his lighter craft at the turns.
