LONELY BULGARIAN
BORIS’S BSSDE-ELECT
AN ITALIAN PRINCESS LONDON, March 5. King Boris, of Bulgaria, who has long sought a bride, says the Vienna correspondent of the “Manchester Guardian,” has arrived at Vienna accompanied by his sister, Princess Eudoxia, ostensibly to consult an ear specialist, but really on a wooing trip. The bride-elect is the daughter of King Victor Emmanuel of Italy, Princess Giovanna. Difficulties were encountered in arranging the marriage because King Boris belongs to the Orthodox Greek religion, while Giovanna is a Catholic. According to the Bulgarian Constitution the King and the t lei r-A ppareut must belong to the Orthodox religion,. This requirement was threatened as & result of the Pope’s having stated that he would ex-communicate Princess Giovanna if she married King Boris. King Boris, however, pledged himself to foster the union of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches in Bulgaria, in recognition of which the Pope was prepared to abstain from ex-communi-cating Princess Giovanna.
