Field in A.J.C. Sires Produce Stakes

HONOUR TOPS THE LIST

The field eligible for the A.J.C. Sires’ Produce Stakes at Randwick at Eastei the first acceptances have already been declared—is worth the best part of £30,000. Various of the two-year-olds still standing their ground cost well over £I,OOO when they were sent into the sale ring early last year. Of these Honour, the New Zealand champion, heads the list. He was knocked down at 2,300gn5. Apart from the horses who were sold last year, there are various Sires’ Produce Stakes candidates who were dealt with privately, and their value is no mean amount. Among these is Spanish Galleon, winner of the V.R.C. Ascot Vale Stakes. Parkwood, the winner of the chief Victorian tw j-years-old events in the spring, is raced in partnership by one of his breeders. The probabilities are that if a price was put on him it would run into 5,000 guineas at least. Of course, there are two-years-old who would not now realise the amount handed over for them at the yearling sales but the enhanced, values on others, compared with their purchase prices, more than makes up for the depreciation in value of certain youngsters. Honour’s Figure The two-year-olds engaged in the Sires’ Produce Stakes, and which were sold as yearlings, have, in various instances, increased in value. For instance, Honour, who cost 2.300 guineas, is hardly likely to sell next month for a sum within coo-ee of that amount. And if the son of Limond should win the A.J.C. Sires’ Produce Stakes, his value will go up accordingly. Carradale, who scored at Flemington a fortnight ago. is so highly thought of that if the V.R.C. chairman. Mr. k. K. S. McKinnon, decided to sell him he would not accept double that amount. Mr. Robert Walder is another owner who contends that he has secured cheap propositions in Pentlieus and Century Tire, who cost, in the aggregate, over 2,000 guineas. Mr. Walder would not take 5,000 guineas for the pair. Mr. Frank Spurway has been offered something like 1,500 guineas for Regie d’Or. The latter cost him only 375 guineas. Yearlings like Cabaret Girl, Malvina, Firbolg, Roc and others, who were bred by their owners, would not change hands for anything under four figure amounts. Although the field for the Sires* Produce Stakes will be thinned out during the next few days, at the present time the valiie set upon those eligible for that race probably exceeds £ 30,000. Those youngsters who were sold as 3 j 'earlings, together with their value, follow:

Honour (Limond —Homage) . . . . 2,300 Carradale (Caravel —Vicella) . . . . 2,000 Gallant Top (Top Gallant —Tandale) 1,250 Laurel Crown (Valais Three Cheers) 1,200 Century Tire (Rossendale —Scintilla) - •• 1.200 Peneheus (Rossendale —Cereica) . . 000 Royal Top (Top Gallant —Bonnie Eve) 725 North Star (Great Star—Martian Princess) oio Magwell (Magpie—Carilla) .. . . bOO Peacemaker (Limond —Makepeace) 600 Phantom Reef (Psychology—Desert _ Gold) Regie d’Or (Roubaix —Comedy Girl) Bessemer (Devizes —Steel and Gold) 3<5 Lineage (Spearhead—Lady Swynford) 300 Eton Blue (Sarchedon —Torquay).. 140 Pay Paix (Paper Money—La Pasx) 100 Ellesdee (Paper Money—Peirene) . . 100 Queen Nassau (Nassau —Lahinch) 60 Flying Offa (King Offa—White Worker) .
