FIRE DAMAGES HOUSE

OUTBREAK AT MOUNT EDEN An eight-roomed house at 119 Mount Eden Road was badly damaged by fire about three o’clock this morning. The building, which was a wooden one, was occupied by Mrs. N. Von Stunner and was used as an apartment house, containing two other sets of apartments. The fire originated in the bedroom of a suite occupied by Mrs. Hunt and spread quickly. It was not observed until it had a good hold, but when the alarm was given the Mount Eden Brigade had it under control in less than 20 minutes. Four rooms were completely gutted but the remaining four were only slightly damaged by smoke and water. The bouse was insured in the South British Office for £1,300 and Mrs. Von Stunner’s furniture in the Norwich Union for £250. The tenants’ furniture is believed to have been uninsured.
