KAIKOHE SHOW

JUDGES PRAISE QUALITY LIST OF PRIZE-WINNERS (From Our Own Correspondent) KAIKOHE. Monday. The Kaikohe Agricultural and Pastoral Association's; annual show was held on the association’s ground at I Kaikohe on Saturday. The weather I was tine, but dull. The attendance ; was good, but not up to last year’s record. The entries in the horse see- ! tion were good, and the quality of the | hunters and riders was of a high order, j being the subject of special comment from the judge, Mr. Gordon. He considered it was the best show of IranI ters he had seen north of Auckland. Mr. F. Ryburn, judge of the Jer--1 seys, said he was disappointed as far I as numbers were concerned, as he expected to see more entries in such a good dairying district. The quality was good, and quite satisfactory. Mr. Christie's champion cow. and other ex- ! hibits, were quite good enough for any show. | Mr. S. W. Xorrish said the Friesians ! were a very superior class, both in number and quality. The bulls were very good, the yearling bull in particular being of outstanding quality. The yearlings were a credit to their breeders and the district. Mr. Xorrish was very pleased with the Polled Angus class. Though few in numbers, they were of excellent quality, and better quality would not be seen anywhere. The only Shorthorn bull shown was a splendid animal, and he was very surprised to hear that there were so few of this breed in the district. Mr. Martin was agreeably surprised at the standard of sheep in the district, being far better than he had expected. The Romney Marsh throughout were a very good exhibit, and were lit to be shown anywhere. The champion ram was a particularly outstanding specimen. The Southdowns and Hylands were also good. The freezing classes were of exceptional quality, and would compare favourably with any sheep of this class in any show.
