In the Market Place
MORE BANANAS LOCAL FRUITS DECREASE The imminent shortage of bananas in the City Markets has been avoided by the arrival of a large shipment of Fijian bananas by the Tofua. These were offered in the markets to-day. Some lines of local fruits have diminished. Local apples and pears have, however, increased slightly in supply. There are good inquiries for both fruits. Californian oranges are selling readily. The last shipment was of exceptionally good quality. Peach sales are fair. Good quality potatoes are being sought steadily, but prices continue to be only fair. Heavy supplies have weakened. Onions are in heavy supply. High prices are notable in the sales of green peas and beans. Quotations: FRUIT Pears: L.8.J., large 7s to Ss, small 5s !to 6s; Packham’s Triumph, 4s to 7s; ! cookers, 3s to 4s.
