INCIDENTS AT PAEROA LUCY ROSE’S “DOUBLE’’ WEATHER AFFECTS ATTENDANCE The racing at Paeroa yesterday on the occasion of the concluding- day’s ! sport of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club , was chockful of inciden, and furnished an exciting day’s sport for a fairly ! large attendance. Heavy rain overnight had made the course a bit soft and slippery on the surface, and three horses fell on the flat. Desert Glow, at double-figure odds, landed the principal event from Queen Arch and Lorient 11., the actual winner, Lucy Rose, failing to weigh in correctly and being disqualified. Lucy Rose then came out and won the sprint from Awarere and Billikins. Star of the Hast gave a brilliant exhibition of jumping when he won the Steeplechase. Jockey S. Henderson, seriously injured when Mangait: fell with him on Saturday and sent to Thames Hospital. was last night reported to be progressing satisfactorily. The meeting was conducted in excellent fashion, secreatary TI. Poland and his executive having everything working very smoothly throughout. The totalisator yesterday put through £ 23.991 i, against £ 29.852 a, making £54.399 for the two days, compared with £ 60.934. a decrease of £6,535, mainly attributable to the small attendance yesterday on account of the wet weather early in the forenoon. , , , Notes on the racing and details or results follow: Second Hurdles Odin £533 was made favourite for the hurdles, with Boomerday £4BB next in demand, while Komak, the winner, carried only £263. When the field settled down Odin was in front from Potoanui, Komak. Brundee Boy, Boomerday, Ramblin’ Kid and TJralla. Odin was still in the van along the back, followed by Komak, Potoanui and Boomerday, these being the only ones with a chance. Komak went to the lead crossing the top and was four lengths clear of Odin into the straight, with Potoanui and Boomerday well back. Komak chanced the last fence, but luckily got over safely and went on to win by eight lengths from the favourite Odin, with Potoanui three lengths back third. Then came Uralla, Boomerday and Ramblin’ Kid. It was an impressive performance on the part of Komak. Hikutaia Hack Cup

There was another surprise in store for backers when they made Unoco (£438) and indolent (£375) first and second favourites respectively, for two outsiders —Grand Tea (£145) and Whaka King (£202) —filled the divi-dend-paying places. Passing the stand Some Lady, Whaka King, Flapperetle and Quinsilia were disputing the leading positions, and just behind them followed Indolent. Arikitoa and Flitter. At the crossing going out of the straight Flapperette fell and brought down the favourite, TJnoco, who interfered with Te Money. Quinsilia, Whaka King and Some Lady were on terms moving down the back stretch, and this trio were attended by Indolent, Flitter, High Tide and Arikitoa, the last-named having only Whaka King in front of him at the turn, where Some Lady, Flitter, Grand Tea, High Tide and Quinsilia were all prominent. Then Grand Tea joined issue with Whaka King and Indolent also put in a run. A good finish eventuated and Grand Tea, Arikitoa, Indolent, Whaka King and Flitter appeared to pass the line in that order. But the judge’s placings were: Grand Tea, first, a neck; Whaka King, sec-

ond, a neck; Arikitoa third, and Flitter fourth. Waitekauri Handicap Awamutu whipped round- at the start and took no part in the race. To a strait?liny start Rose Lupin led out from Currajong, Pellette and Norval Tea, and there was little alteration in the order as they raced along the back. Crossing the top Pellette was just in front of Currajong, with Rose Lupin and Norval Tea following. Currajong hit the front at the bottom of the straight and stayed on to win by threequarters of a length from Pellette, who beat Rose Lupin by three lengths. Norval Tea was fourth, followed by William of Orange and Snowplane. The favourite was a good thing beaten. The betting favoured Pellette £913, Awamutu £497 and Currajong £442. Shaw Memorial Handicap

On the strength of her win on the first day, Ohinemuri was sorted out by backers for the Shaw Memorial, and he was entrusted with £724, as against Flying Juliet £545, and Queen Arch £5lB, second and third favourites respectively. Lucy Rose, who won, but was disqualified, carried £251, and Desert Glow £lB9. The field was bunched, and going out of the straight Flying Juliet was leading Maori Boy, Hakanoa, Ohinemuri, High Pitch, The Lover, Desert Glow, Lorient 11, with Lucy Rose last. As they raced down the back stretch Ohinemuri ran up to Flying Juliet, this pair being chased by Maori Boy, Hakanoa, High Pitch, The Lover, Desert Glow and Queen Arch. At the half-mile Ohinemuri was just in front of a bunch which included High Pitch, Lucy Rose, Hakanoa, Maori Boy and The Lover. Crossing the top Hakanoa was tempoi'arily at the head of affairs, Lucy Rose having charge at the turn, where High Pitch, Queen Arch, Desert Glow, Ohinemuri, The Lover and Maori Boy were following in that order. Lucy Rose hung on well in the run home, to win by three-quarters of a length from Desert Glow, who beat Queen Arch by half a length. Lorient II was fourth, a length away, and then followed The Lover, Maori Boy, High Pitch, Hakanoa, Ohinemuri, and Flying Juliet. On returning to scale Lucy Rose failed to draw the correct weight and was disqualified.

Waihi Handicap Len £453, and Just Nell £371, were best backed in the hack seven, with Katuscha £lO3, one of the outsiders. When the field had settled down Loving Cup had charge, attended by Swift Light, The Jack Jumper, King Leslie, Just Nell, Claremore and Pae Ana. Racing down the back Loving Cup and Swift Light were together, three lengths clear of King Leslie, Just Nell, Pae Ana, The Jack Jumper, Spancil Hill and Len. Loving Cup still had charge at the home turn, with Len (who had put in a good run), Just Nell, Pae Ana and the Jack Jumper following. A good finish saw the favourite, Len, just get home by threequarters or a length from Katuscha, who beat Loving Cup by half a length. Just Nell was fourth, followed home by Swift Light, The Jack Jumper, King Leslie, Thanks, Pae Ana and Merry Mason.

Paeroa Handicap Glenstar and Tea Time were taken out of the sprint, and Chelone £552, Subdivision £533 and Awarere £S2S were evenly supported, but Lucy Rose carried but £314. Takutama, Value and Chelone were first to become prominent, being chased out of the tapes by Billikins, Subdivision, Awarere, and Atapai. Chelone, Takutama and Value were striding together in the : van going along the back, with Billikins, Awarere, Subdivision and Atapai j next in order. Chelone and Billikins were on terms at the entrance to the straight, with Awarere, Takutama, Green Bonnet and Subdivision following closely. Inside the distance Awarere and Subdivision were fighting out a hard finish when Lucy Rose came on the scene, and finishing doggedly got up to beat Awarere by a head, with Billikins half a length away third, just in front of Subdivision. Then came Green Bonnet, Atapai, Chelone and Takutama. The win was a most popular one. Hauraki Plains Steeplechase

Glenotus £685, Master Arch £558 and Star of the East were in keen demand for the steeplechase, and they filled the places. Going out of the straight the first time Roman Abbey slipped and fell on the flat, Star of the East being in front at this juncture from Glenotus and Master Arch, with a good gap back to King Fame and Prince Rufus, and this was practically the order throughout the piece. Crossing the top the last time Star of the East held an advantage of four lengths over Glenotus and Master Arch, and they turned for home in this order. Star of the East went on from the last fence to win by three lengths from Glenotus, who headed Master Arch in a punishing finish for second money. King Fame was a poor fourth and Prince Rufus next. Waikino Handicap Seven only started in the final event, the Waikino Handicap, but it was productive of a fine contest. Auriculus £ 908 was a better favourite than Serang £741, while there was good backing for The Thorn £737 and Air King £558. A fine start saw Berinthia, Serang, The Thorn and Air King get away best, and along the back Air King and Berinthia drew well out. being five lengths clear at the halfmile. Air King and Berinthia were still in command at the top, but Air King was in front at the home turn, with Serang, Berinthia, Auriculus and The Thorn closing. Air was hotly challenged by Serang and The Thorn over the last bit, but hung on to get the decision by a bare head over Serang, with The Thorn a length away in third berth. Auriculus was a length and a-half away fourth. and Berinthia was next. The winner showed a. great improvement on his performance in the hack seven the first day.
