THIEF SHOT DEAD WHEN POLICE WAIT HIDDEN IN TANNERY
Received 9.45 a.m.) MELBOURNE, To-day. Complaints of thieving at tile Zandera tannery at North Melbourne caused the police to hide on the premises. They saw two young men jump a fence and commence to steal skins. The police pursued them and fired shots. One of the men fell mortally wounded and the other continued. He eventually was captured, hut not before severely injuring his knee. The dead man was Clarence Tylie, aged 21. The man who was arrested is Alfred Floyd, aged 22 years.
