PRINCE EDWARD

“KINAPHONE” SINGING PICTURE The amusing locally-made film, “A Daughter Of Auckland.” together with “Kinaphone” singing sequences, will be shown at the Prince Edward Theatre again this evening. Hildred Graham is charming as a vivacious young Auckland flapper who first “reforms” the Rev. Mr. McWowse a reformer from the South, and is afterwards the subject of .rivalry and jealousy between two young men. Local scenes, such as those of the Civic Square and the Pirate Shippe, add interest to the picture. In addition a double-feature programme will be presented, including “The Farmer’s Daughter,” an uproarious comedy starring Majorie Beehe, and “Taking a Chance,” a thrilling Western story, starring Rex Bell. ROYAL SHOWS “VARSITY” The first picture to be made bv Charles Rogers since his successful appearance in “Wings” is now at the Royal Theatre, Kingsland, in “Varsity,” a colourful story of romance and sports at a typical American college. Rogers appears as a care-free young student who falls badly in love with Mary Brian, another student. The janitor of the college, an old fellow, played by Chester Conklin, is in reality the father of Rogers, but wants his boy to have a good start in life and not l>e handicapped by the knowledge of his poor parents. One of the climaxes of the picture comes when the boy succumbs to the same vice that ruined his father. Many thrilling sporting contests arc depicted during the story.

“Clearing the Trail,” the second picture, is a stirring Hoot Gibson “Western” •story.
