THROUGH HEAVY SEAS
TOFUA’S ROUGH VOYAGE BAD WEATHER FROM SUVA On the four days of her journey from Suva to Auckland the Tofua encountered heavy seas all the way. Some of the passengers descrbied the seas as “terrific.” but members of the crew were less adjectival. They agreed, however, that it was a rough One passenger. Miss B. Mitchelson. was thrown across the smoke-room and crashed into a table. It is thought that one of her ribs is fractured, but she was able to walk off the ship and will go under an x-ray examination at the hospital. Other passengers were thrown about and a table was broken. Waves washed over the Tofua’s decks from the time she left Kandavu until this morning when she got into the shelter of the northern coast. “Everything was tied down and the ship was wet inside and out.' remarked one passenger.
This is the hurricane season in the islands and heavy weather is to be expected. Usually the island trip is n remarkably smooth one, and any seas encountered are described as heavy.
