PRISONER SHOCKED
SURPRISED AT CHARGES ' LANGUAGE COSTS £5 «| am rather shocked at these charges, and I have no recollection oi the affair.’’ said John Stinson at the Police Court this morning. Stinson, a labourer, aged 50, was charged with being l'ound drunk in Eurko Street, and using indecent and insulting language. Stinson’s remark that he could remember nothing of the circumstances was taken as a plea of not guilty. A Newmarket constable said that he had ordered Stinson to move on, but hud been abused for his efforts. The man, who was very much under the influence, of liquor, had refused to go away. , _ Stinson: This has taken me by surprise. I should like a solicitor. Mr! E. C. Cutten. S.M.: Unless you can tell him more than you have told us, he is. not likely to be of much use to you. Senior-Sergeant O’Grady mentioned that Stinson, in addition to abusing the constable, had addressed a most insulting remark to a woman in Newmarket, who had complained to the police after the man had been arrested. Remarking that Stinson wanted a lesson, Mr. Cutten imposed a line of £5, in default seven days’ imprisonment. A request for a week to pay was granted.
