WORKERS COMPENSATED
CLAIMS AGAINST STATE JUDGMENT BY CONSENT In the Arbitration Court yesterday afternoon it was announced that two compensation claims brought against tho Government had been settled by agreement. Tho terms were announced to the Court.
While pulling down a tree at River-Wv-'uf< ° I Mlast Geor S e Henry Wyatt (Mr. bullivan), an employee of tho J- orestry Department, fell and suffered an internal derangement of the knee joint. Counsel said the doctors on both sides had agreed that full compensation should be paid to date, and four months further full compensatlon - £ lam tiff s weekly earnings averaged ~ 3 12s, and the department had paia compensation until October 20 at the rate of £2 8s a week. Air. V. R. consented to judgment on behalf of the Crown in accordance with the medical recommendations. In entering judgment, Air. Justice Frazer allowed plaintiff costs and witnesses’ expenses. Alate ICostanicli (Air. Sullivan), an employee of the Public Works Department, was working on the Orakeij railway deviation and was struck bv a fall of earth and rocks on December 4. 1925. He suffered a compound fracture of both bones of the left leg and had numerous operations.
Tlis average weekly wages were £4 32s 6d. and he had been paid £2 13s 8d a week compensation to November 2 last. A settlement was agreed to on the basis of full compensation to date, and further compensation at the rate of 54 per cent, of the total for the remainder of the six years’ period of liability.
