PROGRESS IN TE AWAMUTU (From Our Oxen Correspondent) TE AWAMUTU, Friday. During January 73,921 cows were tested by the New Zealand Herdtesting Association, compared with 68,280 cows last January. The averages were: L,b. of milk, 718 (632); test, 4.3 (4.2); lb. of fat, 31.47 (26.71). Averages for Te Awamutu district groups are as follow: Hairini group of 1,057 cows averaged 7181 b. milk, with a 4.4 test and 31.921 b. fat. The best herd average was 38.521 b. fat from 82 cows, and the lowest 26.431 b. from 32 cows. The best individual cow gave 741 b. fat and the lowest 71b.

Kihikihi group’s 1,748 cows averaged 7161 b. milk, 4.4 test, and 31.911 b. lat. The best herd (53 cows) averaged 37.331 b. fat and the lowest 25.95 from 97 cows. The best cow gave S4lb. fat, and the lowest 61b. Kihikihi's best cow topped the poll for the whole of the association’s territory.

The 1,275 cows in Ohaupo group averaged 7321 b. milk, 4.4 test, and 32.701 b. fat. The best herd averaged 45.181 b. fat from 32 cows, and the lowest 24.201 b. from 24 cows. The top cow produced 861 b. fat, and the bottom cow 71b.

Otorohanga group's 1,805 cows aveW aged 73Slb. milk, 4.6 test, and 34.361 b. fat. The best herd average was 47.211 b. from 3S cows, and the lowest was 26.05 from 60 cows. The best individual cow gave 7Slb. fat, and the lowest 91b. The 1,041 cows in Otiwa’s group averaged 6591 b. milk, 4.3 test, and 28.631 b. fat. There were 40 cows in the best herd, averaging 36.451 b. fat, and 16 cows averaging 18.311 b. fat, constituted the lowest return. The best cow gave 591 b. fat and the lowest 81b.

Paterangi group had 1,064 cows, averaging 6941 b. milk, 4.6 test, and 32.361 b. fat The best herd average was 38.861 b. fat from 22 cows, and the lowest 24.521 b. from 40 cows. The best cow gave 741 b., and the lowest 51b.

Te Awamutu group’s 1,311 cows averaged 6S3lb. milk, 4.3 test, and 30.031 b. fat. The best herd average was 38.051 b. fat from 50 cows, and the lowest was 20.071 b. from SS cows.
