IRISHMEN CELEBRATE

DEATH OF PATRON SAINT, ST. PATRICK

rpO-DAY Irishmen throughout the world are celebrating the death of St. Patrick, their patron saint, who died 1,436 years ago on March 17. As the anniversary falls on Sunday the main celebrations are being held to-day. Elaborate preparations have been made. A committee of 200 has worked hard for weeks organising the sports meeting at the Domain this afternoon and a concert in the Town Hall this evening. Banks will observe the holiday on Monday. Government, legal and insurance offices, however, gave up their holidays on saints’ days some time ago and so will remain open.
