NEARING 1,000 MARK

UNEMPLOYED IN AUCKLAND The number of men unemployed in Avickland this week almost reached the 1,000 mark. According to figures supplied by the Labour Department this morning a total of 991 men t are registered as out of work, compared with 955 last week. Of the former number 818 men are classed as fit for heavy work and 173 for light work. The figures for the previous week were 802 and 153. During the past week 72 men were placed in work, compared with 75 for the week ending March 9.
