FREE ADMISSION?

SENIOR PLAYERS AND V.-P’S

“A really good proposal,” was the comment of Mr. R. T. Michaels, chairman of the North Shore Rugby Club s annual meeting last night, when discussion took place on Grafton’s notice of motion, to come before the A.R.U. on March 25, that senior players and club vice-presidents should have free entry to Eden Dark and the gi and - stand. He recollected that many years ago, he and other members had the privilege, and could not see why it had been withdrawn, and on the general ground that senior players provided most of the sport for the public and should be catered for, the meeting gave its delegates a free hand in the matter. Grafton has a second remit coming forward, that each club should have one delegate on the Board of Management. The majority opinion was summed up by Captain Redmond, who said it meant “parochialism in football,” and a committee of -0 or ol) members, and it should not be supported. The delegates were given discretion in the voting. SOME PLAIN SPEAKING NORTH SHORE CLUB There was some plain speaking at the annual meeting of the North Shore Rugby Union last night as to the reason for the club dropping back from A to B grade. Mr. W. B. O’Brien, retiring secretary, laid the causes to bickering among the players and the fact that out of a membership of 125 only 13 could be mustered for tlie final A grade match in which the club played. Out of that 13 two were suffering from injuries received in previous matches. Mr. R. T. Michaels, patron, who was in the chair, stressed the need for selecting officials who had experience and who would give the necessary time for developing the club which now was financially sound. On his motion the annal report and balancesheet was adopted. Out of an income of £B6 16s a sum of £22 was carried forward. Th© club had a balance of £839 assets over liabilities. The seventh grade, which won the championship, is to be presented with caps. This year’s officers are: Patron, Mr. R. T. Michaels; president, Mr. G. M. Reid; secretary, Mr. O. • Sinclair; treasurer, Mr. G. Fairgray; club captain, Mr. Wm. Elwarth; committee, Messrs. W. Simpson, S. McCallum, B. Jackson, J. Dorrington, Butland, Muskett, Ladbrook; delegates to A.R.U., Messrs. W. Oram, Sinclair and B. Jackson; representative on junior management board. Captain Redmond. Selectors: Senior opening matches, Mr. J. Dorrington; junior, Mr. W. B. O’Brien. Auditor, Mr. W. A. Walsh; trustee (to replace a deceased officer), Mr. W. Oram. Messrs. J. Beere, J. W. Baxter (sen.), C. G. Stokes and W. B. O’Brien were elected life members. GRAFTON CLUB’S MEETING • There were over 60 members and supporters present at the annual meeting of the Grafton Rugby Club last evening. Mr. Arthur Paul was in the chair. The annual report showed that the club was in a sound position, and th© prospects for the coming season are bright. A total of 20 new members was elected. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr. W. McKeich; president. Sir Janies Gunson; vice-presidents, same as last year; secretary, Mr. T. McConnell; treasurer, Mr. W. F. Allen; auditor, Mr. A. Bayliss: delegates to A.R.U., Messrs. Martin, Wakerley and Cameron; club captain, Mr. D. Wakerley; deputy club captain. Mr. Read; delegate to junior board. Mr. H.
