“PERSISTENT THIEF”
GAOL TERM IMPOSED Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. Described by the police as a man with a bad criminal history, James Alexander Scorringe, aged 21, was to-day-sentenced to six months’ imprisonment to be followed by two years’ reformative detention for the theft, at Stratford, of a wallet and £3 in money. It was stated ho had converted to his own use a motor-cycle for a week, finally abandoning it at Ngahauranga. The theft was committed from a roommate at one place where he stayed. For the conversion of the cycle Scorringe was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. It was stated he was sentenced tc four years’ reformative detention in 1923 for breaking and entering and theft. When the magistrate rem: f od it was useless having Scorringe out, the chief-detective replied, ’llO is a persistent thief."
