TO AFFIRM FAITH

GREAT BIBLE DEMONSTRATION MANY INTERESTING ADDRESSES “This meeting has been called to give the citizens of Auckland an opportunity for affirming their faith,” said the Rev. Evan R. Harries, who presided at last evening’© Bible demonstration in the Town Hall. Tho large hall was packed from stalls to gallery with an enthusiastic crowd, consisting mainly of women, who eagerly applauded fiery speeches from several Auckland ministers. “Our platform,” continued Mr. Harries, "is the acceptance of the Holy Scriptures as the fully inspired and wholly trustworthy revelation of God to men and the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. "This meeting is, as you see, unanimous. There are ministers here from all churches and although we do not claim do claim to represent our faith. We do claim to represent our faith. We have undertaken to expound our faith but we have to expound it in the light of the opposition called Modernism. Therefore it will not be possible to be entirely non-contentious.” INFALLIBILITY OF JESUS "I am sure,” said the Rev. A. A. Murray, who spoke on "The Infallibility of Our Lord," "that this huge meeting is evidence of the fact that there are thousands of people in this city who are not willing to be robbed of an inspired Bible and divine guidance, and we have here a party of ministers who are not going to surrender them without a struggle. “Wo believe that we have a reasonable basis for tho l'aith within u's and we believe that it is resting on a foundation that cannot be shaken. "Infallibility,” said Mr. Murray, was defined in the dictionary as “without error: trustworthy; certain.” That was what we believed of the teachings of Christ, and that was the belief that the Christian Church had held down the centuries. Modernism claimed that it had grounds for denying the infallibility of Jesus Christ. He repeated the parable of the man who built his house upon a rock and he who built upon sand and compared those who believed in Christ to he whwr built his house on rock and those who followed Modernist teaching to him who built on sand. TRUTH OF THE BIBLE Mr. C. T. Rolls, dean of the New Zealand Bible*. Training Institute, speaking on “The Trustworthiness of the Bible,” refuted the theory that the Biblo could not be trusted because the documents were so remote and because the originals were lost. Many great authorities on evidence, he said, had supported tho veracity of the Bible and had considered that the evidence in favour of the various events narrated was conclusive. Dr. W. H. Pettit gave an interesting address on the subject. "Can History be Written Beforehand ?” He gave many examples of the “way in which God had done this in the Bible, when lie had prophesied the fall of cities and the coming of future civilisations. During the evening hymns were sung and a collection was taken up
