SEASIDE TROTTING
NEW BRIGHTON FIXTURE BIG FIELDS TO-MORROW INTERESTING SPORT PROMISED THE filial fixture of the New Brighton Trotting Club will be held at the seaside course to morrow when good fields promise to be the order of the day. Some interesting and exciting contests are assured. Appended is a review of the card by "Abaydos.”
The New Brighton Trotting Club is one that enjoys a good measure of popularity in the Canterbury Province and success has attended the various fixtures promoted at the seaside course. It was customary in the past for the club to hold a two-day meeting on two occasions during the season, but this year the executive decided on another plan and spread the permits over a longer period. A one-day meeting was staged in September, followed in December by a function extending over two days. The remaining permit is being utilised tomorrow, and that the alteration has proved satisfactory to Southern own-
ers is shown by the liberal response received for the various events. The classes arranged have given novices and improvers in both the trotting and pacing sections plenty of scope, and in a few of the events horses of higher calibre will be seen in action. Improvers’ Trot The field in this event is large and a great number of the square-gaiters on the end of the handicap are practically unknown quantities. Great Way will be making his first appearance in the South, and it will be interesting to see how he shapes. Great Applause has not lived up to his reputation. Blue
and Gold is the most likely of the front-liners to show up. Waiata Poi is a promising sort, and Admiral Bingen gave such a sound display last Saturday at Timaru that he is sure to be in demand. Further back Accumulator, St. Petrox, Midland, Nelson Prince and Brent Boy will claim most attention, and when it comes to the final test, the elect may be Admiral Bingen and Brent Boy.
Belfast Handicap The card is well filled in this item and of the 28 acceptor* more than half of them figure on tile front mark. Katomba, Frills, Alpine Melody and Kate Logan are a likely quartet that will keep those behind busy. Harold Logan is useful and several on the same peg hold good prospects, Monopole and Peter Daunt being two that will be sought after. If Roldeno has a day on the others will have something to think about. Then there is the consistent Liglitfoot. Nonsuit won at Wellington, and Harold Lee’s Nelson form was decidedly promising. Schoolmate scored well at Ashhurst, but the public may prefer Harold Logan and Alpine Melody. Burwood Handicap This is the chief heat of the day and the field, all things considered, is of very fair calibre. Of the limit pair, Mercury will doubtless receive most support, but Golden Author is a promising pacer. Firpo won at New Brighton before, and is staying on in a fashion that gives him a chance. Sahib and Linkman can go fast and. if they can see the distance right out will be troublesome. Kiowa has raced consistently this season, which will be in his favour. Athalone is a solid customer and one that will fight it out to the bitter end. Avenger still threatens to get a stake, and Shadowland, if ready for the fray, will make things merry. June de Oro is a good mare that promises to reach a high mark and Royal Serene has showed she can get the journey once she hits the trail. Travis Axworthy faded out at Timaru, but the pace was sultry and he may do better among this society. Jolly Chimes and Billy Sea are not to be turned down from their marks, but
buck its will look for Atha.one ~nj J un . de Oro. but il the latter ir r . ; ved i,„a. later heat. Travis Axworthy will bo looked for. Eclipse Handicap This is the heat where three and four-year-olds try conclusions on the basis of handicaps, and it may be that the front rank contains some youngster of merit that will create a surprise for those at the rear. Author Franz may find most support of this lot. and Golden Ore has been expected during the past few weeks. Editor has fair credentials, and should liu&i go soundly he would be well in the picture. Arikitoa is a good kind of pacer, and Baron Bingen should be equal to holding his own in such company. For his impressive victory last Saturday, Tactless has been set a stubborn task, but the son of The Triumph is just the sort that can tackle the .job. When the adjustment is arranged Tactless and Editor may have the call. Dash Handicap Another big team will be seen in action in the sprint, and on the end are some that can travel quickly. Roger Lyon has a lot of pace and if he hops it right will take a power of catching. Young Bingen is speedy, and Winter Audubon can foot it over a course. If Flora Golding strikes her >:nc-time form, the others would have to be content to fight for second place. Rollo showed early promise, but he has been in easy street for a while and may require a race. Guide Rangi is promising, while Becky Mine generally puts up a solid performance. Bonnie Prince can scamper and the distance should be right in his favour. Great Logan is on a handy mark, and the Coaster Locanda Boy is not to be sneezed at. Rose Marie has been disappointing of late, but Mac Dillon can muster up a lot of speed. Sylvia Logan and Audubon Lad are possibilities. The verdict may be Roger Lyon and Becky Mine. Autumn Trot The square-gaiters will get anuthcr chance and those with best staying credentials will be looked for. Repute will have a show off the front, but despite their failure last week-end the Boneta —New Metford bracket will be solidly supported. Quickfire goes V>etter off the end and St. Petrox is on the improve. Trampcrisp is one that should feel at home in this society, and Bingen Starr, if he elects to go solidly, would make it hard for the rest. Great Amazon was a consistent performer last season, but she may want a race, and All Peters has some form for recommendation. Western Voyage is nicely placed. Lady Fan may be the best of the remainder. Favourite, selections may be Boneta—New Metford bracket and Repute. Wainoni Handicap There are some speedy customers engaged in this heat, several of whom claim an earlier engagement. Ol' the limit brigade. Apex should appeal most. Close up are Roger Lyon and Young Bingen, a smart pair. If Loiterer is ready he will be a tough proposition, and Becky Mine, if reserved for this heat, would be dangerous. Vikota is
in form, and Mac Dillon can go quickly, but Lindbergh, if he does it right at the get-away, should make the opposition fly to beat him. June de Oro, if failing in the chief heat, will be a nuisance in this race, but Firpo and Daphne de Oro are not to be overlooked. The latter should soon be striking form again. Apex will possibly be first choice, but Lindbergh will have many friends. Electric Handicap There are prospects of a keen contest for the saddle heat and backers are set 3. difficult problem. Of the front brigade, Gibraltar showed some form last week at Timaru, and Donard has been expected for some time past. Mercury is speedy. Direct Tod likes the weight on top and Great Logan may go better this way than he has been doing lately in harness. Sylvie Logan is a likely sort, and both Logan King and Albert. Logan have performed well with the weight on top. Audubon Lad won so easily at Timaru that he will be hard to stop again, and of those further back Granite City will appeal most. The Audubon Lad—Mercury bracket will be in demand, with good suppDrt for Donard.
