MANY IMPROVEMENTS MADE TO BAY OF PLENTY COURSE
Considerable additions and improvements to the course appointments have been completed by the Bay of Plenty Jockey Club in anticipation of the race meeting to be held on the Gate i’a course on Saturday, March 23. The totalisator house has been extended, so there should be no fear of congestion there. A new judge’s box designed to the pattern of the Stratford Club s box has been built in the corner of the saddling paddock. It is equipped with a modern semaphore for displaying the numbers of the placed horses. The alterations made in the course will b© appreciated by owners. There was previously a curve at the southern end near the Jive and six furlong starting posts, but in future these races will start on a straight run. and there will be only one curve, the home turn, in the five and. six furlong events. The local horses have been kept off the inner part of the course by the trestles and consequently there is no worn track close to the railing. The course has received special attention, and in spite of the dry spell is in good condition for the races. The total expenditure associated with the improvements amounts to about £SOO.
