READY FOR CONTEST

ROWERS AT CHRISTCHURCH Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. The Marlborough and Otago eightoar crews for the inter-provincial race to-morrow arrived in Christchurch last evening. The Wellington crew will reach .Lyttelton to-morrow morning. Mr. A. J. MacLaine, coach of the Marlborough crew, stated last evening that, as president of the New Zealand Rowing Association, he was very pleased to see that all South Island centres, as well as Wellington, would be represented in the race. He had believed that Auckland would be coming down, but probably expense was the stumbling block.

Rowing was a peculiar sport in that it was seldom that a ‘‘gate” could be collected. The sport had to depend to a great extent on the enthusiasm and finance of its active participants.
