ALL KNEEL TO POPE
RULES FOR THE ROMANS SALUTE OF FIFTY GUNS (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Tuesday. The representative of the British United Press Association at the Vatican City states that when the Pope leaves the Vatican for the first time a salute of 50 guns will be fired. The authorities also announce that all must kneel when the Pope approaches and nobody will be allowed to approach the Pope unless he first beckons. His orders must be received in a kneeling posture. Italian soldiers on the march must halt and salute when the Pope is 10 paces distant. If they carry rifles tliev must present arms.
The rank and file of the army are being trained in preparation for the Pope’s forthcoming visit to the Lateran Palace and for his visit to Monte Cassino in July. The Vatican Government has officially decided to issue Papal coins on the decimal system. These will be of four kinds—gold, silver, nickel and copper.
The image of the Pope will be on the obverse side and the Papal arms and an inscription of the date of the Pontificate on the reverse side.
