TAUMARUNUI’S TROUBLES
SUPERVISOR APPOINTED /’ (From Our Own Correspondent) TAUMARUNUI, Wednesday. A special meeting of the borough council was held last evening to consider the position of the borough in regard to staff appointments. Ihe Works Committee presented a recommendation that the electrical engineer, Mr. H. F. McLeod, bo appointed as a general supervisor to have complete charge of all work and the outside staff, at a salary of £ 500 per annum, and that Mr. S. T. J. Cameron be appointed traffic inspector, poundkeeper, (log-tax collector and sexton, at a salary of £4 10s a week. The Mayor, Mr. G. E. Manson. moved the adoption of the recommendation, which Cr. S. R. Dryland seconded. Cr. G. S. Steadman raised a series of objections to the appointment of Mr. McLeod, but the motion was carried, as was also that of appointing Mr. Cameron as inspector. The permanency of the offices will be reconsidered by the incoming council.
