WILD PANIC ON A TRAIN
CARRIAGE ABLAZE 73 PASSENGERS INJURED (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (United Service) Reed. 10.35 a.m. DELHI, Tuesday. When the Mandalay express was nine miles out from Rangoon, travelling at full speed, the leading bogie burst into flames. From 60 to 70 third-class passengers broke out in wild panic, fighting and trampling each other in a mad scramble to get to the windows. The smoke and intense heat added to the horror. Before the train was brought to a stop 30 persons had leaped from the burning vehicle, and 20 others had been injured by trampling. A later message states that 73 were injured.
