MATRICULATION EXAM.
“SYSTEM SATISFACTORY” NAPIER, Tuesday. The headmaster of the Napier Boys’ High School, Mr. W. J. Foster, reported to the board this evening that since the official list of matriculation passes was published toward the end of January, two more pupils had been notified of their success, one as a result of his challenging the marks, and the other through the publication of a supplementary list.
“This latter list," said Mr. Foster, “is simply a confession by the university authorities that the examiners' marking was not satisfactory, and must therefore be viewed with apprehension by teachers and the public generally.
“While a remedy is not easy to find, there is no doubt that considerable ground exists for dissatisfaction. I do feel that some pupils are definitely handicapped in their life’s work by the faulty running of the system, which is breaking down under its own weight.”
