SUBURBAN CRICKET
In spite of the fact that there will bo no more senior A Suburban Association cricket on the Domain for two Saturdays to come, owing to the holding of the St. Patrickis Ray sports next Saturday, therq will be no suspense as to the outcome of the competition. Harbour Board, by its win over Ellerslie last .Saturday, has ensured the retention of senior honours. Lost by Two Minutes With only two small minutes to go to give Ponsonby a win on the first innings over Green Lane, Harold "Watts caught the last of the Ponsonby batsmen and so gave Green Lane an outright win and the apparently unassailable position of second in the competition. The end of the game was unexpected and was the most exciting climax in games on the Domain this season. * * * Team Was Short In more ways -than one Ponsonby, which played a short team, was unfortunate in being beaten in the most important series of matches in the competition. Yet Green Lane, which has shown* that its batting calibre and its enthusiasm are much above the average, deserved to win. There has been little between the teams. Ponsonby was more impressive in the first part of the season and Green Lane has shown its worth in the second round. * * * Caused Improvement The coach, George Cox, who returned to England by the Aorangi yesterday, was responsible for the raising of the standard of efficiency of Green Lane. He moulded the young players together and the team’s rapid advance has been a good advertisement for Cox’s influence.
