TAUMARUNUI NOTES

HOSPITAL BOARD MEETS

At the monthly meeting of the Taumarunui Hospital Board the chairman, Mr. R. F. Beautrais, was appointed io represent the board at the annual conference to be held at Palmerston North. The Director-General of Health, Dr. Valintine, wrote informing that the Minister of Health had agreed to the sale of the old hospital buildings and land, and it was resolved to defer consideration till next meeting. It was decided to renew for another year the agreement with the United Friendly Societies’ Association and the Ohura Medical Association in respect to hospital charges. Witn regard to the important question of providing maternitv hospital facilities at Ohura. the board resolved to ask the Director-General of .Health for some direction as to the best course to follow.

A large gathering of railwayinen and supporters of the Railway Football Club at the Railway Social Hall bade farewell to Mr. Robert Bull, who has been transferred to Auckland. Mr. T. E. Murrow occupied the chair, and Mr. W. Hodges, locomotive foreman, presented Mr. Bull with a travelling rug on behalf of the gathering.

At the monthly meeting of the Taumarunui County Council the chairman, Mr. G. A. Stanton, was appointed as that body’s delegate at the conference of the New Zealand Band Settlement and Development League. The county foreman was instructed to take steps for the erection of a new bridge on the Arangi Road, near Ross’s farm.

The Taumarunui Borough Council recently engaged Mr. R. H. Jackson. A.M.N.Z. Soe., C.E., to prepare a report on the question of properlv draining the Matapuna suburb, which is subject tn damage by stormwater from the hills when there is heavy rain.
