The vast machinery of the public administration of London is explained in a volume of London statistics issued to - day. This contains innumerable interesting facts about London. For the administration of the county there are 141 authorities. In the outer London districts, which, with the county, make up Greater London, there are about 300 more authorities. The number of persons, excluding officials, who help to administer the local government of London and Its neighbourhood, is 10,000. All are unpaid except a few chairmen and Mayors. The gross expenditure by the London local authorities amounts to more than £56,000,000 a year. The open spaces maintained by the authorities amount to 48 square males. The London County Council maintains 977 schools. Children unfit for receiving instruction at the ordinary elementary schools are educated at others which have *been specially provided to cope with their mental or physical disabilities. The council also man tains 26 secondary schools and 19 technical schools. It makes substantial grants to 52 other secondary schools, and 10 polytechnics and 16 technical
